“Daddy, what’s the first thing you would do if you were President?”...my nine-year-old son asked me out of the blue, after breakfast at seven something this Monday September 14, 2009 morning.
I paused for only a moment and replied, “I would make sure everyone had food to eat. And a nice place to live, and I would stop the making of weapons, and stop the killing of people. And I would stop abortion and help women and mothers.”
“That’s what I would do too,” he said.
“But Daddy, someone might kill you,” my seven year old daughter added astutely.
Something along the lines of ‘out of the mouth of babes’ I thought to myself and asked her, “Why do you say that?”
“Because some people might not like your orders,” she said with wisdom beyond her years.
“Yes you’re right, the mean people,” I responded and added, “I have to write that down.”
“What?” she asked.
“What you guys said, it was profound,” I answered.
“What’s profound?” she asked.
You are. We all are, our very existence is profound and we need to see each other as the beautiful creations that we are. I should stop here before I spoil the simplicity of this and start in on the simply complex realities we’ve made of our world.
Be the difference you want to see made in your world. Even if that means “someone might kill you.”

Teach the children to stand for what's right or they will fall for anything.
