The Sharks Lim / Buss connection haunts the Coyotes…

Sharks vs Coyotes

Game 1 saw back and forth goals until the score was 4 – 4, the Lim / Buss connection scoring all four for the Sharks. Only then did Marcus Schmalling arrive at the game for the Coyotes inadvertently bouncing a shot up off of Sharks Reid Lundstrom, then off the back of his own net-minder and in. It was how the night would go for the Coyotes not seeing one bounce go there way as Funston was often in the right place at the right time to make the stop and smother any possible rebound.

Stanley and Snowden scored two apiece with Sattler assisting on three of the Coyotes goals. The game winner was a shot by Theo Bouwsema just barely rolling across the line before it was scooped up by the trapper of a sprawled out Hetherington. The final score, 6 – 4 Sharks, Buss and Lim connecting for 7 of the Sharks 6 goals and 3 assists.

Game 2 was another back and forth battle with the Coyotes playing in a state of desperation. With some “spectacular saves” by Hetherington in the period, Schmalling with a pair of goals, and the score at 4 – 4, the turning point once again. A well timed, simple point blank shot by Mark Labrecque of the Sharks found its way under the stick and pads of Hetherington. It was Labrecque’s first goal of the season and couldn’t have come at a better time for his team!

Next Scott and Sattler connected to make it 5 – 5. The battle ensued with saves at both ends until the deciding goal came on a on a pass from the left side hash marks to Chris Buss moving all alone in the slot ready to slam it high right and home, this time just passed the glove of a diving a rookie net-minder, twice Funston’s senior.

One shot and one season ends, and another team finds itself with a shot at Silver Mug game glory. Once again Buss and Lim connected for 4 goals and 3 assists.

Coyotes MVP’s: Dave Sattler with 2 goals and 4 assists Scott Stanley and Dave Snowden with three goals each.

Sharks MVP’s: Chris Buss with 4 goals and 4 assists, Kevin Lim with four goals and 1 assist, and Cody Funston for bringing his ‘A’ Game.

Stars vs Ducks

With Ducks goalie Adam Galpin and and the Star’s #1 Sharpshooter Mark Steunenberg it made for another anything could happen evening. Sean Armstrong stepped in true to his name in "one of the the most hard fought games we've played this year" said Stars Captain and NSAHL veteran Bryan
Lim.

In Game 1 the Ducks came out flying strong with a pair of goals and an assists each by power forward Adam deJong, and by D-Man on fire Andrew Shobridge while the Stars Shaun Armstrong continued to display his pin point accuracy by firing three past net-minder Dan Galpin who in my opinion would have been the best goalie in the league had he played full time. Colin Peters contributed to the win with a goal and three assists. In the end it was a respectful Ducks 6 – Stars 4.

Game 2 turned everything on it’s head, starting with Mike Lim’s stellar play in net giving his team the boost they needed to capitalize on the attack. Corstorphine, Armstrong, B. Lim, Reitz and Buller all contributing a goal. MVP Sean Armstrong clinched the full team 6 – 5 win! DeJong had 2 and 2 for the Sharks.

The biggest game of the year to the date for both teams was as competitive and exciting as they come. The score was tied 2 – 2 for what seemed like an eternity, Stars goals came from Armstrong and Vogel, the Sharks equalizers from Shobridge and deJong. The Hero of the night would be deJong putting one past Mike Lim on a night where either team could have walked away victors, and perhaps they both did.

Ducks MVP’s Bryan Ward for his great hustle and two way play, Colin Peters for quarterbacking his team and controlling the floor and of course deJong with six goals and two assists including the game winner.

Stars MVP’s are Mike Lim for his outstanding goaltending performance, and Shaun Armstrong for his six goal night. The league hopes to see Armstrong out for a full season next year.
