“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Galatians 6:9 (NLT)

Note: The last series was the biggest battle this author has been in so far this season and with everything else going on in my life it took everything in me to stand and not to give up. Series 1: Stars vs Sharks In the first of the two back-to-back Tuesday best of three series, Sean Armstrong proved himself to be a welcome addition to The Stars and the league. He assisted on Jim Reitz game opening goal and scored the final three goals himself to the tune of a 6 – 3 win.
Armstrong has replaced Colin Jackson who sadly will no longer be with us after being “clipped in the mouth by a high stick” according to Stars Captain Brian Lim.
Series 2: Ducks vs Coyotes In the other back-to-back Tuesday best of three series the game opened up with even end to end action until a seemingly harmless shot by Colin Peters found the back of the net.
Dan Galpin for the Ducks was a near impenetrable fortress as the Coyotes fought back. What followed was a frustrating frenzy of shots, lucky bounces and the Ducks capitalizing on give a ways leading to them taking the game handily 6 - 1. Colin Peters, Adam Dejong and Bryan Ward each with a pair.
A Ducks player and a Coyote player were also clipped in the mouth on follow throughs, the Ducks player leaving for the remainder of the game. Battles are heating up as we near the end of the regular season and start thinking playoffs. Lets take a little extra care stick wise both for our opponents and ourselves to keep it fun, fair and injury free.
Series 1: Stars vs Sharks In Game 2 Jordan Eisenhauer turned the tide with two quick goals and assisted on the Sharks third goal fired home by none other than Kevin Lim. Lim picked up a pair as the Sharks evened things up with a convincing 6 – 2 win.
Series 2: Ducks vs Coyotes David Snowden and Mike Giesbrecht opened the scoring early for the Coyotes only to have the score tied by Bryan Ward from Adam Dejong. Then it was Adam Dejong from Bryan Ward but the Coyotes would not die and Marcus Schmaling and Mike Giesbrecht connected to tie the score.
Both goaltenders, Galpin and Hetherington stopped a barrage of shots. Now, often in a game there’s a goal or a big save that gives a team that added burst of energy and confidence. In one of many scrambles in front of the net Ken den Braber snuck one past the long reach of Galpin. Shortly after that a lucky bounce on a glove save went the Coyotes way when it was picked out of the air by Schmalling, and next came two goals from Dave Sattler to seal the deal.
There would be a game three but for the fact there was under 10 minutes left in the allotted time. It would have to go to the dreaded shootout. Hetherington exhausted from the onslaught of Game 2 suggested calling it a draw but no one was listening.
Series 1: Stars vs Sharks Game 3 saw the unstoppable Kevin Lim kick in for a goal and two assists as once again the Sharks take a bigger bite on Tuesday night with a 3 -1 win, Sean Armstrong from Bryan Lim with the lone Stars goal. I’m sure both Bryan and Mike are asking themselves, how can we stop our brother.
STARS MVP: Sean Armstrong had five points on the night including a natural hat trick. If he gets at least one more of those next week we’ll call him “The Natural”.
SHARKS MVPs: Kevin “Super Star” Lim for a 7 point night and Jordan “Five-Star” Eisenhauer for 6 points in the series so far.
Series 2: Ducks vs Coyotes
The Shootout went through both team’s entire line-ups but no one could put anything past the goaltenders so it went to a second round of 1 for 1 sudden death. Dave Sattler wound up and fired one top corner past Galpin. Hetherington thought it was finally over only to hear Sattler say, “No you have to stop one more.” And stop one more he did, 1 – 0 Coyotes and the series win. As the goalies congratulated each other on a night well played Dan Galpin remarked, “You saved your teams (pause) rear-end.”
DUCKS MVPs: Dan ‘The Wall’ Galpin for great goaltending and dangerous Bryan "Wild Man" Ward for 5 points and a tireless effort on the night.
COYOTES MVP’s: Dave “Slap-shot” Sattler with 3 goals including two game winners and John "Hockey Hero" Hetherington for some big Game 2 saves and another shootout shutout.
Next week same teams, different location, bigger battle!
Let's hope for dry playing surfaces next week - just in case you may want to bring an old towel!Find Stats here.
Note: What's In A Nickname?
A young man with Down Syndrome had been watching me practice at a North Shore hockey arena last spring. Later as I walked past him, I smiled and said, "Hello."
His response more than made my day as he thought aloud, "There goes a Hockey Hero."
