Regardless of who lost or won, one word summed up last Tuesday nights first game of 2010, and that was FUN. Even playing against the likes of Kevin Lim, it was good to be playing again.

Gym time for the Friendship Ball Hockey Tournament has not been booked yet as we're hoping to hear from more players interested in forming a team. Please let me know by the end of next Tuesday night if you'd like to play. Stars vs DucksContributing: Stephen HoDuck’s goalie Adam Galpin was hanging with the likes of Roberto Luongo and thousands of others at GM Place, while this side of the harbour his big brother Dan Galpin donned the pads to backstop the Ducks in a closely fought battle to kick off the New Year.
Game 1 saw Jordan Eberle, Team Canada’s Junior MVP reflected in the play of the Colin Peters as he led the Duck’s outdoing a natural hat trick with four goals in a row!
Game 2 saw the Ducks take a commanding 4-2 lead before the Stars said enough is enough, kept Peters down to two goals and added all around fire power of their own. Bryan Lim opened and closed the scoring for the Stars to nail the 6 – 5 game shut.
Game 3 was a do or die tie breaker with the strength and tenacity of the friendly giant Adam DeJong rising to the occasion to lead the Duck’s with two goals to a 3-1 nail biting finish.
The STARS MVP honors for the night go to Bryan Lim.
The DUCKS MVP honors for the night go to Collin Peters.
Sharks vs Coyotes Game 1 saw Theo Bouwsema’s first two shots of the game find the back of the net, giving the Sharks the lift they needed to run away with a commanding 6 - 2 victory in the wake of Coyote turnovers. Travis Guenther got the only two assists for the Sharks in the game. Cory Funston held off any hopes of a Coyote comeback and Bouwsema’s two points were followed by two goals in a row from Lim, and the final two from Buss.
Games 2’s opening seconds saw a quick goal from Mike Giesbrecht that lit a fire under the Coyotes who sunk the Sharks 6 - o with two rippers from Dave Sattler and MVP quality shut out goal tending from John Hetherington.
Game 3 was a do or die tie-breaker that got under way with a pretty passing from Hetherington, and Sattler to Neilson for an early goal. A point to which Cory Funston and the Sharks defense held them to for seemingly the longest time – that was until the games fateful final shift. Kevin Lim, assisted by Chris Buss, shot off three burning as close as possible to the corner bar bullets – glove side and blocker side – impossible shots to stop from close range unless your catcher is already there.
Kevin Lim and Chris Buss share the SHARKS MVP honors for the night.
John Hetherington and Dave Sattler share the COYOTES MVP honors for the night.
The Sharks take a two-point lead on the Coyotes and end Hetherington’s perfect series winning streak. Hetherington and the Coyotes became the only team to date to shut out the Sharks in a game. The Ducks are now just one point behind the second place Coyotes whom they meet two weeks in a row making it a best of six series. The Stars are still fighting for a series win and will have their work cut out for them as they face off two weeks in a row against the Sharks. My prediction is either way someone’s going to be upset. May the team who wants it more score big!
