"Moving sucks!" I've said it and have heard it said. It is one of the most stressful times in a person's life so they say. Not everyone can afford movers and here’s an opportunity for you and others you know to make a simple but real difference in someone's here and now!
Mission: On The Move is a volunteer venture and the brainchild of too many moves . The idea came to my wife and I during our family’s 16th move in 10 years. Most of our moves came with little to no help and it occurred to us how much of a blessing it would be to offer and show up to help people who are where we’ve been, on the move.
Mission: On The Move consists of people like you and me lending a helping hand to folks during some part of the moving process, helping to lighten their load and make their move a little or a lot smoother. Why not lend an hour or few, as you are able to help a single Mom, a family, or single person because “many hands make work light and many lights make life bright!”
Our first opportunity was last Saturday December 12th where we gave a few hours to lighten the Vernas family's load, even though we were exhausted from our week, including having to deal with a stressful situation with a homeless woman staying on our couch.
It was good to go and offer the little help we were able to give the Vernas family. The fact that we were even there gave them such a boost amidst their exhaustion. Our presence alone was truly appreciated. We wish we could have done more;
we wish there were more people to help.
All it takes is a willing heart and a little time. Imagine if a dozen people or so were able to give two to three hours alone spread throughout a day… how much that could really lighten the load of all the packing, lifting and cleaning needed in the short time frame allotted to move house and home.
Want to help or know someone who could use a helping hand?
Please contact the email below and leave your phone number to be placed on the on call list if once in a while you could make the time to help. Do you have a vehicle good for moving stuff and/or transporting people? Do you have the muscle for lifting, or the much needed cleaning power, or trusted ability in child care to help get the job done right, light and on time?
If so, then you'll be making new friends and doing a good deed indeed!
