Ducks vs. Stars

Stephen Ho of the Ducks said, “In game 1, Mike Lim showed why he was last year’s NSA Ball Hockey Goalie of the Year.” Lim held the Ducks to three goals. Great goal tending together with another four goal game for Mark Steunenberg with assists from Bryan Lim and the two goal league debut by Jim Reitz secured the Stars first win of the season. Keep going boys!

Perhaps it was too much pre-game socializing but the night got off to a late start, which we’re assured won’t happen again. As a result there wasn’t enough time left to go beyond the 2 – 1 score in the Ducks favour for game two. The night was then decided by a best of seven shootout with the Duck’s Stephen Ho scoring the only goal and Adam Galpin shutting out the Stars for the victory. Still no sight of Dan Galpin other than leading worship at church last Sunday.

Game MVP's go to the goaltenders, for the Ducks Adam Galpin and the Stars, Mike Lim shared with Mark Steunenberg.

Coyotes vs. Sharks

The battle for top spot between the Coyotes and the Sharks was heated as to be expected. Game one saw the Coyotes thankful for a 7-4 win which should have come sooner after an all too gentlemanly move by Coyotes Captain Dave Sattler who called back one of his own teams uncontested goals - due to a Sharks player error of picking up debris from the gym floor during the play. Kevin Lim then scored two goals for the Sharks before the seventh game deciding goal was slammed home five hole by Coyotes Jon Maciver.

Game two saw the Sharks up their game under the best two out of three do or die contest. Kevin Lim proved why he’s a major threat whenever he takes the floor by leading his team with a hat-trick and one assist. Stanley Scott had three goals and Dave Sattler two in the game as part of a big night in the Coyotes points department but it wasn’t enough in this controversial game two 7 – 6 loss to the Sharks.

The Sharks had the opportunity to return the favour of calling back a goal that in this netminders opinion, without getting into a paragraph of details, should not have counted.
Understandably the Sharks bit down under the competitive crush and chose to draw the battle lines for a fiercely competitive season.

Victory in the end went go to the Coyotes who took game three, 3 goals to 1. Great saves and defensive plays were made by both Sharks, Cody Funston, and Coyotes, John Hetherington. Defense were quick to pounce on rebounds as the play went end to end. Stanley Scott scored twice for the Coyotes to Kevin Lim's one. The game winning goal hero of the night was Marcus Schmaling assisted on the play by his brother Stefan all with Marcus's wife Beth cheering them on!

Game MVP's for the Coyotes goes to Marcus Schmalling, and for the Sharks, Kevin Lim and why not add both goaltenders in there too!

Next week the Sharks go head to head against the Coyote’s again with first place on the line and the Stars take another crack at the Ducks. Who will win is who wants it more.
